Blockbusters, Brawls and Baseballs

It's official, it's the end of an era. Iverson has been traded to Denver. All those kids will be trading in their Sixers jerseys for Nugget baby blue. Now the question is, can Melo and AI co-exist?... The truth is, that's not the real question at all. Everyone should be asking "How will Isiah try to get in on this?" Who can see Isiah trying to ride the coattails on this and trade for Nene and the throw-in guy the Nuggets got for whatever picks the Knicks have in the next 4 drafts? Then, when people question his move he'll claim "Well, I got the most talent in the deal". Who can't see this? Really? The next question that's burning in my head is: "Did you see those highlight packages?" There were like a million Iverson dunks! I can't imagine how old those clips are. That is definitely not the player the Nuggets are getting because I haven't seen AI throw one down in like the last 6 years. Talk about digging into the vault.

In other Denver Nugget news, they were involved in an ugly fight at MSG that could've been a boxing match. Except it was a really girly boxing match where we learned Carmelo Anthony is much more a scorer than a fighter (or a rebounder, or a passer...). Although it could be Mardy Collins didn't crumple from the blow because he's from Temple, and nobody gives Temple any credit. Sure, Temple's most memorable recent NBA product besides Collins has been Rick Brunson, but does that mean the school lacks toughness? You thought what Isiah was a terrible coach for allegedly warning Anthony not to drive? Well John Chaney at Temple actually sent in a thug who proceeded to foul out in a minute or so and in the process, break an opposing players arm. That's the kind of program Mardy came up in. Tough cookie and willing to do dirty work, that Mardy Collins might have already secured himself a contract extension if Isiah sticks around. Jerome James.

Finally, there's been a wave of Baseball signings. One involving my hometown Blue Jays laying down some serious dough making Vernon Wells one of the highest paid players in the game. Crazy? Well, Devin said it best when he said "Vernon Wells will make more at one at-bat than I can forsee myself making in an entire year in the near future." Assuming 500 at-bats, Wells would make 36,000 a plate appearence. Overpaid? or is Devin just underpaid?

And who gets the sense that Kansas City Royals GM Allard Baird gets his advice from guys like Matt Millen, Charley Casserley, Isiah, and Scott Layden? Seriously. Last year JP Riccardi justified paying a premium for BJ Ryan and AJ Burnett because you need to attract people to come to Canada. Apparently the truth this year is that "It's just how baseball rolls". Gil Meche is getting paid 11 million a year. Gil. Meche. Last years ERA: 4.48.

Now for my real conclusion, although it comes far too late (but as you all know, that's just how the Double Take rolls), speaking of Casserley and the Texans, did anyone catch the Week 14 highlights of Vince Young running for a 39-yard TD against his hometown team that passed him over, in his hometown? Then proceeding to tear off his helmet and scream "THIS IS MY HOUSE, THIS IS MY HOUSE" while high-fiving fans in the stands? There were maybe 4 ways it could have ended worse for Houston (in no particular order): 1. Vince Young stiffarms Mario Williams on that run and hurting him. 2. Vince Young blowing Houston out from the start 278-12 (It would have to be a really huge margin to be worse than a comeback) 3. Vince Young stiffarms David Carr on that run and hurting him. 4. The Texans win the cointoss in OT and on the proceeding set David Carr throws a pass that is intercepted by Vince Young who stiffarms David Carr on the return and hurting him. Only 4 ways.
